Leveled Texts
Things to notice about your child's reading:

In an independent text, does his or her reading "sound like language?"  Does it have the flow and voice of natural speech?

Is your child using all the sources of information on the page -- i.e. pictures, photographs, charts, and other features?

In an instructional level text, what do you notice about your child's reading?

Does your child notice when she omitted a word or substituted a word?

Does your child let his eyes track the text and only finger point when he needs to slow down to monitor for accuracy?

Does your child re-read when a phrase or sentence doesn't sound right?
